The 'keep it scecret' funda

I've been in DCE for approx 3 yrs now.. and since the 2nd sem, I have observed the 'keep it secret' funda in DCE. The deep sense of competition, which is expected to have a positive effect has had a real damaging effect on us dceites..

At DCE, its been a common practice to hide stuff from your classmates/batchmates.. sometimes even seniors.. people work alone and in secret.. with the philosophy that lesser the people who have the information about an opportunity, lesser the competition..

And the type of info that people hide.. is so petty.. its sometimes laughable.. whether its a good book on a subject (whose questions might appear in exams) or photostat notes of some senior/classmate.. a hint by the teacher that a particular ques might be there in exam or info whether a particular topic is in syllabus... an opportunity to apply for an internship/training or some previous years placement paper (i assumed people wud be doing that)... the projects that one is doing or the syllabus they have gone through for the test.. This is not the complete list.. there can be a zillion more examples..

And i m almost equally guilty of the same as the rest of dceites... it was done to me and i returned the favor.. and so the evil practice continued..

I used to think that I m the only who hated it (but does it).. but yesterday, when going thru the kshitij sudan's 'guide to sensible apping' I got to know that there are other dceites who hate it too.. I dont know how to end this.. I dont even know how to start ending this.. but I really hope it does come to an end some day.. And if someone has any ideas how to get rid of the practice, pls let me know..n maybe we can work together to put it to an end..

Well maybe, all the people can app together for MS, prepare together for placements... authorities also have to blamed coz seldom we found ourselves being engaged in group activities...

Well I have been a proponent of this "Team funda" long ago... I was the one who actaully initiated kshitij to write this apping guide, could have also kept this info to myself,he being quite a good friend i am not bragging but i mean to say that everybody has been a victim of this , and everybody has tried to mitigate it.

But, I think this model won't work well here at DCE for some reasons which I feel,

1)Lack of hostel life, its a stupid reason , still I feel the kind of bonding which the hostelers have in between them lacks in the day schies..

2)You have to practice before you preach... so we all have to take a step forward.

3)Secluded groups.. ppl have secluded themselves... prolly they were not good friends , this grouping is natural , but its gargantuan here at DCE.

4)People have this stupid notion that , they can overtake people with these petty tricks. Its coz people are not honest with themselves.

I have n reasons but this space is kinda , less

But i feel this model won't work here well , One has scribe his destiny on his own, with limited resources always there would be this kind of a polemic situation.

thoda bada ho gaya :D

I think people need to have a mature outlook towards things in DCE. Generally this kind of behavior stems from lack of exposure to real world with the consequence that people start believing that competition can be "reduced" by keeping secrets. The truth is, needless to say, directly contrary to it.

I tired to be open in my endeavors at DCE but there was little appreciation. People were confused that why I was doing what I was doing! It's hard to take the first steps and that's where people who wish to make a change fail often. But to make a difference someone has to stand up to it. I am not ashamed to say that I tried and failed, hopefully someone with a stronger sense of purpose will do it soon!
